1921 Studebaker Special Six - $13,500 - Ashland, OR - 1921 Studebaker Special Six, I have a 1921 Studebaker Special 6 in the two seater roadster form for sale. It was purchased by my grandfather in 1945 and he drove it around near his property in rural upstate New York, keeping it in a garage for most of this time. I acquired it 13 years ago and transported it out here. Its mostly been sitting on jackstands in a garage since. It runs nicely, though right now it is drained of gas and water. I unfortunately do not have the time or skills to give it a proper restoration and hope to find someone who does. It is the quiet unique and hard to find two seater roadster variety of the special 6. Includes some spare parts, original manual as well as one for a similar era Studebaker, and a reproduction shop manual. The top is in need of serious help (but enough is there to create a template for a new one), and the seats could use a little too, but the rest is so solidly built that a restoration just takes time and a little effort, time being something I just don't have. Anyhow: it ran and drove the last time I tried, which was about 12 years ago. It has been sitting, drained of gas and water and off its wheels since then.
There is no rust through, or even close. There are a couple small screw holes in the top of the left fender where my grandfather mounted a side mirror and then removed at a later date. The steel is very solid, and while it has some small dents, there is plenty of metal to work with. Way more than any modern car. The paint is in pretty good shape. It looks worse in the pictures because I tried to wipe down the dust but just ended up putting lots of dust streaks (no water available at the storage unit)! My grandfather kept it out of the weather at all times, and I took even better care of it. As I said, the real issue is the top, but that is certainly replaceable. In my opinion the car is a restorers dream. There are lots of things that could be done to make it nicer, like fresh paint, remove a few small dents, add some varnish to the wood parts, clean the engine, etc. and all of them are relatively easy to do, and aren't required to drive the car. The top is the only thing that would probably really just need to be replaced, and probably would require an expert car top person to do, but even that won't keep you from driving the car.
The wheels are in fine shape. There is even a full spare with rim. Fortunately, I wouldn't expect to need new tires for this car for some time. I've kept it off the wheels for the last 16 years so the tires wouldn't get damaged from sitting, and they were in good shape in my opinion from the start. The car has been inside out of the sun, so no sun damage either.
Title is clear and in my name, and registered in Oregon with antique plates.
The two old photos are of my grandfather in the car dated in the 50's and 60's. The one with the kids includes my mom and aunt (who are now in their 60's).
