I have a '91 mustang. I'm not a ford guy, but I got a deal on it I couldn't refuse. When it ran those times, it had a windsor 393 stroker motor/c4 and a 200 shot on it. It was a really good combo for what it was-perfectly happy on pump gas when not spraying (I actually jetted it down to 150 hp and ran a 10.14 on straight 93 octane once), and was a decent street car. Power windows and locks still work, cheap cd player in it, etc.
It didn't break anything chronically, and would start and drive around town fine. Eventually, the 393 started losing oil pressure. What I thought was that the block had cracked from the main saddles up toward the valley, which is how stock ford smallblocks generally fail from high power. I figured it was bleeding oil pressure off from the mains through a crack. What actually happened was that it had simply beaten the main and rod bearings to death. No copper showing, but just worn out. I figured that was a good time to pull and sell the ford motor, and put a 440 in there. So, that's what I'm doing. It ought to go at least some mid 9's with the 440. It's gonna be a fairly basic combo-stage VI heads worked a little bit by Dwayne Porter, solid cam, cat rods, ross 10.5:1 flattops, stock block.
