“Fast Jack” Beckman completed an extraordinary weekend by winning an all-Dodge, all-Don Schumacher Racing, all-Terry Chandler-sponsored Funny Car finals at Sonoma Raceway.
Beckman was 0.0295 seconds, about 13 feet, ahead of Tommy Johnson Jr. at the finish line. Johnson got a quicker start but Beckman, who dominated the Funny Car class all weekend, caught up in the first 60 feet and never trailed after that. Beckman’s time was 4.037 seconds at 310.63 mph compared to Johnson’s 4.073 seconds at 308.99 mph.
