I waited about 8 yrs before I added up the receipts to restore my ragtop. The total was about the same as the value at the time of restoration. But waiting 8 yrs allowed that value to go much higher. The amount of peeps interested in these "muscle era" cars are dwindling. When the original muscle cars came on the scene most of us knew how to tune & repair them. That's knowledge that's lost in the younger generation. They would rather make payments on a "new" muscle car with a factory warranty.

I've replaced several windshields of both the butyl rope and the gaskets. They're both not really difficult, but the main thing to watch is alignment. Perfect center from all sides. The rubber gasketed ones can be a little tricky untill you learn the technique. A spray can of silicone helps. And...

It has a nice "muscular" stance to it, but for now it's a 318/2 bbl w/single exhaust. My goal is a 4bbl and duals with a nice rumble.

With the last project done it's time to start a new one. The most important part of retirement is to keep busy. Without some goal you're losing a main reason to live.

It IS a good way to destroy the hairspring. It would depend on how high you revved and for how long.

If the desire is strong and you have the monetary means, go for it or regret your decision for the rest of you life. You don't get many chances to re-live your youth.

These situations of new electrical components being bad out-of-the-box is rampant right now. So much of this stuff is being out-sourced to China. And they are creating junk. Slave labor, no idea of what they are even making and a total lack of quality control. You are better off to source used...

Sometimes a simple "band-aid" for worn syncros is thicker lube. If you're not running 80W-90, do it. You could even try to get a bottle of STP in there. But have fun squeezing it in.

Providing that your syncros are good condition you shouldn't get any grinding on down shifts. The only other cause could be the clutch is not fully releasing. Or your co-ordination is off. 🫣

Many times over the years I dealt with issues not much different from what you're dealing with. But that was before interweb, restoration suppliers & such. We learn from mistakes. Mistakes of others and our own.
