I made a redneck tranny cradle for one of my floor jacks with some scrap metal, misc brackets and some 3/4" plywood...worked OK and I was able to the NV4500/NP205 combo out and back in one piece.;)
I did make a removable tunnel assembly and had the interior and carpet up and out. I never thought of the cherry picker through the tunnel opening....Hmmm might give that a try next time and see how it works, Thanks for the idea!(y)
Yeah the NP205 transfer case is 150lbs dry and the NV4500 is about that as well...I left them together and used a homemade redneck trans jack/mount to wrestle it out and in...not pretty but it worked. With a proper transmission jack it would probably make the job a lot easier.
Well couldn't find anything in stock locally, could maybe get me something by the end of the week but the prices were going to be through the roof....so decided to just clean up the old clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. Thankfully the NV4500 and Getrag both use the same throw out bearing and...
Started pulling the truck apart to do the throw out bearing, and new clutch at the same time and the rear main seal. well I pull the pressure plate and clutch and sure as heck i ordered the wrong one! I thought I had remembered everything and that it was the NV4500 flywheel with no...
Well I've been getting things ready to tear into Patches on my next days off...new clutch assembly and pull oil pan to do the rear main seal. Been putting this off for at least 2-3 years now and with the throw out bearing now grinding/squealing almost every time I use it I can't put it off any...
Guy probably got the car cheap because it was rearended...then decided to embark on this journey to abomination! Hence the flat rear quarters and the horrible rear valance, etc.
I picked up a 72-74 Challenger many years ago in E7, 318 car but no motor or tranny...think I paid $300 for it as a roller. Parted it out and made a decent amount of money off of it but the best keeper part was the 3.91 Suregrip!
You can see the rear quarter in this pic...
And the car here...
I didn't try and load the rest of the pics because my internet connection is basically dial up...😔
But that exhaust is in much rougher shape than I'd thought, but with some sanding first to knock off the rust then SOS pads it could be cleaned up....not new looking but enough to extend the life...
That exhaust could be brought back to almost new condition with some water and a bunch of SOS pads. But they are looking for a buyer who doesn't actually get down on the ground and fix their own stuff.
As I've mentioned my brother had the warmed up 302, top loader 4 gear and a spooled 4.56 gear set in many comets and mavericks and I can tell you they are a blast to drive...a tad dangerous with the little manual drum brakes and manual steering, but still a hoot!
That ones does look very well...
I've been working on the bend this evening...never even thought to use the friggin press to try and straighten it.
I set it in the vise then heat and a few strikes from a dead blow hammer and repeat, repeat, repeat....got it basically straightened out but for a small hump on the one side. Set...
