    84 Crewcab...AKA..Patches

You have to soak the new clutches for at least 20 min in friction modifier before install, and there are 4 "thin" disc and 2 thick. The thin ones had it marked on the disc material but after soaking it had dissolved away, thankfully the two thick ones had different markings and they had not...

    84 Crewcab...AKA..Patches

Never done this job before but read through my FSM and watched a couple vids on-line and felt pretty confident. Getting the carrier out was really not that hard, just mark your bearing caps so they go back in exactly as they came out...couple paint parks on each, then a couple small bars to pry...

I decided last week to dive in and re/re the Power-Loc. Found a local HD commercial driveline shop that had the genuine Spicer rebuild kit in stock for cheaper than the knock off kits+shipping that I could find on-line....so that was a big bonus!

    What are you working on?

So the spindle tower is worn or the bearings are toast I'd suspect, not the blade.

    What are you working on?

Do the new blades not have a shaped hole to fit the spindle? Al the mower blades I've had on and off the blades had a shaped hole...no round...so they won't move on the spindle. Also I've had mowers with just flat washers and a lock washer to hold the bolt in place.

    59 Dodge Wagon

Well I just popped the cover off and boy was I surprised at what drained out.... Looks milky and pea soup green!! I only put this fluid in less than a month ago after draining out the synthetic 75W90 winter gear oil I run from October to May, been doing this summer/winter fluid swap for a few...

    84 Crewcab...AKA..Patches

So I've been having some noise coming from the rear diff for a while now, and the other night when bringing home the W350 clubcab on the trailer it would make a nasty grinding/chattering noise when turning around corners. I've always run gear oil with LSD additive and then toss in a bit extra if...

    Another road trip in Patches....

Yup no damage to the door jam or the cab...the new door I put on went on fine, everything lined up almost perfect! Well the reverse threaded mainshaft must have come out within the last 10 years because I know it was not availble when I converted my NV4500 from 2wd to 4wd back in 2013...

    Another road trip in Patches....

I removed the wrecked door and tossed on one of my spares just to keep the weather out of the truck...

    Another road trip in Patches....

Getrag is a decent transmission and got a bad reputation from a couple things...the biggest issue with them was the factory did not anticipate the heat they would generate when pulling and the OEM level for oil was about 1 quart to low. Thus they would heat up and cook the input shaft bearing...

    Another road trip in Patches....

Once we do the body and chassis swap around I'm not sure what his plans for the old 2wd will be...either keep it for spare parts, or put it together and sell it? I have the room for it to sit and be a spare parts trucks for him so that's not an issue and long term that's probably money in the...

    Another road trip in Patches....

Guess I've been a bad influence on my soon to be Son-in-Law.. He decided recently that he wanted a 1st or maybe a 2nd gen so he has been trying to find one within his budget, and I have been looking as well. Well I sent him a link to a pair of 1st gen's about a 4.5hr drive from my place that I...

A12 - time to get busy

Have them fill all the speed holes and leave the one hole that is through the number on the rad support so as to not butcher/obliterate it any more. You have pics of the before so if/when the time comes to sell you can show the potential buyer why you chose to leave that one hole.

A12 - time to get busy

Man I remember those days when restoring the Coronet...every Friday out to the shop to write another cheque to cover the weeks work.😬

    What are you working on?

Slowly been developing a grinding noise in the front end of Patches when turning and slowly accelerating, been having difficulty locating the source. It seemed to start when I swapped on my summer tires so thought maybe the tires were causing the noise so quickly swapped on my winters and when...

    1971 Dodge Charger WM23 Factory Super Bee, 383 V8, 4-Speed Pistol Grip

Exactly my mindset...but even originally coded cars in factory bright colours have never really done it for me, I've always preferred the earth tones...brown, green, beige, blue, gray, etc. Seeing cars at shows that are coded for A4 or T5 then painted the above mentioned B5, E5, C7 just make me...

    1971 Dodge Charger WM23 Factory Super Bee, 383 V8, 4-Speed Pistol Grip

When I was looking for a 71 Bee I came across this car...the colour changes and the quality and execution of the "restoration" just didn't work for me. I know I am the odd one but I would have much prefered the car left in the original Tawny Gold with a Gold top and interior....Never been a fan...

    Nobody's allowed to complain...

The front rad support blackout on my 73 roadrunner had two full on loop-d-loops in the black paint.... 😄

    Nobody's allowed to complain...

Considering how bad it was I can't say how much of the original sheet metal is left on the car, can't be much, and the fact it now has A/C I assume the cowl and fire wall was just left as one piece when replaced?
