Called parts gek, that guy said the # I gave is for a 71, won't cross over
Got another guy on their chat, also 71 won't go, so I went ahead & ordered the locking one, & that dang thing says 71 to74 , how could that be!
Was thinking after the next drive when I get in the driveway just open the cap & first see if it sucks my hand off & if so let it idle after I give it a breath of fresh air & see if it still dies out?
Locking cap is not that n big a deal, like 17 bucks, the other was 5, gonna call them later & see why the cheap one dissapeared?
If it's no longer available I'll just get the locking one.
Holy crap, went to order the cap & it does not come up on their website, it was friggen there the other day, gonna call em tomorrow.
They do show a locking one for 3x the price, I don't need a locking unit!!!
So doing some mulling over how to approach this thing when the carb kit gets here...
Parts geek has a vented gas cap, looks like mine but has something protruding down the middle mine does not have? motorad # 16641-05842187
Like 5 bucks, I guess cheap enough to try it?
Drilling would be my LAST resort.
Will see if the book that came with it mentions adjusting the secondaries, that sounds like a safer & easier solution & can be undone if failure is imminent
K, your agreeing with my mechanic (Steve) he about a year younger than ne 71 I think, been around a while.
He mentioned the idle screw exceeding the idle circuit & also suggested the springs.
He also mentioned turning the carb over & drilling 3/32 holes in 4 corners, but have no idea what he...
After all that it was on the correct side, problem is at least for me was I was pulling & capping the other side.
Just messed a little today, put the vac gauge on the manifold side, that is better running around 12", checked the timing that's still at 10BTDC, still closing the adjustment screws...
OK, I start all over with trying to tune it tomorrow after I switch the hoses!
Even so I did have it off & capped when I was tuning, oh well I hope it helps me in some darn way!
Didn't mess with the car today but watched some videos on tuning the carb.
One guy is saying the low vac port is manifold & the high is carb?
that most vacuum advance go on the high port (left looking from rad.)
Now the book says left for emission control & right for non emission control.
I'd...
I didn't think that was normal.
Well since the return on this car was vapor return through that charcoal canister to that little tank in front of the gas tank the return from the pickup is capped & the cars return is capped by the inner fender since the carb has nothing to connect it all too...
