    Timing belt on '03 Jetta

I'm doing the timing belt and water pump on an '03 Volkswagen Jetta. According to the instructions I have, it's possible to remove the passenger side motor mount from the car with the engine installed. I've not found that to be true, but I have hope that eventually I might succeed. Unbolting...

Started working on the dually again

After a LONG hiatus, I started working on my '98 dually again. The transmission is rebuilt, so I decided to pull the clutch off the engine to check it out. It has been sitting there unattended for like 3 years. Sure enough, I'm glad I did. There's some rust, which isn't a big concern...

In a bit of a tight spot

Hi all, I need two things I thought I'd never have trouble laying my hands on-a big block truck oil pickup tube (not the pan and dipstick, already have those) and a 360 passenger car pan and pickup tube. It's amazing how I can't find either of these things locally when I'm looking for...

    Jass, did you write this?

This was on the comment section of a cnn.com article about the oil spill. I don't even remember what it was in response to, but I almost cried I laughed so hard: "I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid so stupid that it...

Set a new personal best in my truck

It has finally started to cool off here in the evenings, and with more miles on my '09 hemi ram, I decided to see if I could get it into the 13's. For reference, the truck is still bone stock. That means absolutely NOTHING has been done to the truck mechanically, down to it still being on the...

    Change coming for my challenger

Hi all, I'm trading my '73 rallye 340 challenger (with an anemic 318 and plenty of work to do to the body) for a paint job and general restoration on my '74 challenger. It may take the guy a year or longer, but it'll have a fresh GOOD silver paint job on it. He's going to paint...

    Where have I been?

For anyone that might have wondered why I rather suddenly quit posting, it's because I've been that damn busy at work. I leave home in the morning at 6:15 or so, and get home at about 7:15 in the evening. Sales-wise, we're doing rather well at work, so the workload has increased considerable...

    I need a slapstick handle

The t handle-anybody got one to sell me? The one in my '74 challenger is all busted up.

Where can I get a low pressure gauge?

Hi all, I would like to do some testing of exhaust back pressure, but I don't know where to find a low pressure gauge to do it with. I would think something that maxed out at about 10 or 15 psi would be about right. Any ideas?

Dynoed the '09 hemi truck today

Ok, I have some results at the wheels. Our local dyno said mine made 307/313. This dyno is FAMOUSLY conservative, to the point that cars with known weight could not POSSIBLY run the trap speeds they do making as little hp as this dyno says they make. Prime example: my mustang trapped 137 mph...

Did they REALLY mean to post this?

Go here, to a local tv station site: www.wsfa.com and look in the video section of that page, bottom right. In case they change it when you look at it, I'm attaching a digital picture of it.

Ok, this thing is getting seriously quick

For a stone stock truck. I took the '09 to the track again last night, and I let it cool off a good while, about an hour. I took what I learned about the truck last week at the track and applied it. It rewarded me with a 14.007 at 96.75 mph. This is still stock EVERYTHING.

    Bought another truck

A new one this time, an '09. At least around here, an '09 standard cab short bed 2wd hemi truck is damn hard to fine, even harder with the 3.92 limited slip rear axle. I drove to Greenville, SC to pick it up. It has a little less than 400 miles on it so far, so it's not really broken in yet...

I'm gonna need parts number help

Where can I go to look up old mopar part numbers? I have a bunch of stuff that I need to find out what it is, and some of the numbers don't pull up on search engines like altavista. For example, I have a vent window that has the following printed on the box: L-PT NO. 2588 699 N.A.G.S...

    Stout late model dodge ram

Rusty, a buddy of mine, recently finished building a 418 late hemi for a guy with a daytona truck. They took it and got it tuned on a dyno by some people who apparently know what they're doing, and he stopped by my work yesterday and dropped off the dyno results. It made 433 hp and 375 ft/lbs...

It's gonna get cold up in heyyunh!

Tomorrow night is forecast to get down into the teens in the city. That most likely means single digits at my house, which is out in the middle of nowhere. I know you folks from Canada and the Northeast are probably laughing at me, but remember, I live in ALABAMA. That's fucking COLD for down...

    I need help finding a truck-an '09

Hi all, I'm trying to find an '09 standard cab shortbed 2wd hemi truck, and they're proving to be hard to find. The trim level can be an r/t or an slt, I don't care. Hell, if someone happened to know where an st was, I'd consider that. The new ones have 390 hp, 407 ft/lbs, and the fuel...

    New heads for duster

I picked up the reworked heads from the machine shop yesterday. They're 596 castings, with 2.02 intake valves and a TEENY amount of bowl work. They've also been milled about 40 thousandths, and have had the intake side milled so the manifold will fit. Everything but the castings is brand...

    Where to put stories?

I have a few stories I might like to write out, stuff somewhat similar to some of Jass' stuff. Problem is, I don't want the entire internet to be able to read them, though for a different reason than him. Some of the stuff that I've done/been through was highly illegal and I'm not sure that...

    Should I buy a '71 charger SE?

Hi all, I looked at a '71 charger SE. It's a 318/auto, I think column shift. It has manual drum brakes too, which surprised me since it also has power steering and a/c. It has hideaway headlights and a gauge cluster with a 150 mph speedometer. The bumper/grille/hideaway headlight...
