My 71 Duster work in progress

Just think of all that you've learned throughout this time on Scatpack and here. And most all of what you've learned has been "self taught". Stand proud man, stand proud. (y)

Many times over the years I dealt with issues not much different from what you're dealing with. But that was before interweb, restoration suppliers & such. We learn from mistakes. Mistakes of others and our own.

If anyone cares, so far I've had the converrt out a few times. Everything there runs & works perfect. The 318, wipe the dust off & go. Hemi, I made a few changes to the carbs, but I need to tweak the idle. And lastly, took the wagoon out for its' maiden voyage and it still impresses me how well...

Don't recall ever using that particular product, but I have heard many good comments. I've used Gorilla wood glue with excellent results.

That spot may be a great place to use that Loc-tiite Extreme glue. 🤔

New parts with closer tolerances will affect temp, but in a minor way. Engine temp is affected more by oil flow to keeps cylinder heads cool, and the cooling system to maintain a constant temp. Higher than normal compression can cause higher internal cylinder temps. I've always preferred a high...

Still probably a lot nicer than how they came from the factory new.

As long as you have a system to weed out the bad ones eventually you'll get there.

Might be wise to only work on those that are questionable. To your knowledge the rest are working correctly. The less new metal against that cam the better.

The main thing that you want to accomplish with the breakin is tempering the cam, which is done. With a fair amount of zinc additive I doubt that you'd have an issue. It's not like your dealing with a high miler.

The answer to how can you test, before installation, stand the lifter in a pan with a very low weight oil, (5w-10, or less), deep enough to cover the oil hole. Pump it full with a phillips screwdriver. Remove from pan, let set for period of time, and test for firmness of plunger.

The issue that Tony alluded to concerned the internals. You can reface the contact surface, but there is no way to rebuild the internals. On that episode he did state that he ended up getting 3 sets to make 1 good set.

My 71 Duster work in progress

Uncle Tony did an episode a while back about all the cam/lifter issues. A big part of the problem, according to him, NO ONE is remanning lifters. The only thing out there is "rebuilt" lifters. The problem arises if you take a worn part and re-machine it, the tolerances create a looser fit...
